Yes, this is a real time capsule.
Why should I start a time
capsule?
There could not be a more perfect time than now to start a time capsule. This
is a fun project for Schools, Individuals, Families, Organizations, Churches,
and clubs. Birthday? Did a friend just have a new baby? just got married?
There's a pretty good chance they won't get two of these! Time capsules
make great and unusual gifts!
Why should I buy an
Affordable Time Capsule?
Let me explain, In 1998 I tried to purchase a time capsule for my family, The
cheapest capsule I could find was $4,000. I may not be the brightest bulb
on the tree, but I'm not going to spend $4,000 on something I'm going to
bury in the ground and never see again. I started AffordableTimeCapsule.com so
others could also enjoy owning a real time capsule. Its not very pretty,
it only comes in white, but it's a real time capsule and it doesn't cost $4,000.
These time capsules are made of 100%
Polystyrene, very tough stuff. When sealed correctly your capsule will be
airtight, and waterproof. They can't rust, and should last indefinitely.
Polystyrene is not PVC. PVC becomes brittle and gasses as it ages PVC is not
suitable for construction of time capsules. Want to learn more about
Polystyrene?
Its kind of plain.
It is when it arrives. Just
plain white. we leave it up to you to decorate the capsule any way you like to
suit your celebration best. Or you can always just leave it the way it is
and slap the warning label on it. either way, in the end if doesn't look exactly
as you want, its your fault.
What should we put in the
time capsule?
Photographs, Newspapers, Calendar
of events from your organization, a Crisp new dollar bill and some coins, a
beanie baby, Pokemon, Baseball cards, a grocery receipt from your 1999 Christmas
dinner, Photos showing how you celebrated New years, document a week in the life
of this year or yourself, family, school, etc. People Magazine, one of your
favorite CD-ROM's, a copy of PC Magazine future generations will laugh at what
we thought was cutting edge technology, a new car brochure from the dealer
including price, School news paper, Church news letter, Classroom photograph and
some school history, Predictions for the future (these will be fun), an expired
drivers license, a copy of your family tree, a menu from your favorite
restaurant, a watch, a paycheck stub, a TV guide, a stock certificate, your
prediction for super bowl "CXXXIV" or what ever you like!
Where should we Bury this
capsule?
While you are more than welcome to
bury your time capsule (When buried, These time capsules should last
indefinitely) Believe it or not
most of today's time capsules don't get buried. Some time capsules are actually
on display in the lobbies of large businesses, City halls, and even in the
trophy cases of some schools. Some are displayed behind a piece of Plexiglas in
the wall of a building while others are buried in the floor with some sort of
plaque to mark its location. A few things to consider when choosing a location,
is the location dry? Will the time capsule be safe from vandals, looters or
theft of the capsule itself? You can always bury it, but if you do, you take the
chance no one will remember to dig it up, or if they do they won't know where to
dig. That big oak tree that’s been in the yard for 400 years may be a fast food
store in 100 years. For families we suggest you place it in a dark dry place,
like your attic or basement. Sooner or later someone will see the large
lettering on the side that says "TIME CAPSULE do not open until (whatever date
you choose)" While they wait for the opening date to arrive the curiosity will
drive them crazy. Studies have shown time capsules you can actually locate and
open are up to 99% more enjoyable than lost time capsules.
When should we open the
time capsule?
These capsules are designed to be
fun, you can open it in 1000 years if you like. We recommend opening
it in 50 years if you want to be there. A lot happens in 50 years, 50
years ago Sputnik was launched, the first electric watch was introduced, Elvis
buys Graceland for $100,000, and IBM sells the first compiler for the FORTRAN
scientific programming language..
Or it can be opened in 100 years by people that knew you. Um, no, you wont
be at the opening, sorry. Record yourself on an inexpensive MP3 recorder, It's
you from beyond the grave! make a video, convert it to DVD and
include the DVD, you're back!
We suggest that you include a letter asking them to place the original contents
in a new time capsule along with what ever they may wish to include to be stored
for another 100 years. Don't forget to include a list of the contents of the
original time capsule, it will be less confusing for those opening it in 200
years.
Will this time capsule really last one
hundred years?
In one word, YES, some of today’s plastics are stronger, lighter and will last
longer than most metals and in many cases will last hundreds and even thousands
of years.
Graduation near? make some predictions, this will be a hoot to open at your 30, 40, 50, year reunion.
